The workshop focused on how to conduct a survey effectively, outlining its purpose, value, research ethics and rules. It emphasized the importance of adapting one’s approach to the community being surveyed. The participants learned about the mindset they should adopt when interacting with people, including the use of respectful language, appropriate attire, and maintaining discipline. The tone and manner of speaking were also covered in the training, helping participants understand the importance of cultural sensitivity.
The workshop also discussed the key subjects to be surveyed, explaining why they matter and how to communicate their relevance to the community. Moreover, the field of work in which the survey is conducted was highlighted as a crucial aspect, ensuring that participants understand the context and impact of their survey efforts. This training equipped them with the knowledge and skills to carry out meaningful surveys in marginalized communities. Of course, they all belong to the same communities that they would be working with, so that is a huge plus point.
This is in preparation for the Fellows’ upcoming work in communities.
